Repeating patterns

“We will have to steer clear of the habitual patterns and behaviours that offer us no rewards — the thoughts, habits, excuses, and behaviours that keep us from living our best lives.”
— Debbie Ford, The Best Year of Your Life
Do you find that you keep having the same problems crop up in your life? Some say that they keep getting in the same bad relationships, just with different people. For others, they always find the lousy jobs. Do you keep gaining weight no matter what you do. It can even be found in patterns of illness that keep arising.
Life sends us teachers in all different forms. And life will keep sending the same teachers until we learn the lesson that was attached to the challenge. If you find yourself in a loop cycle, shift your perspective so that you can see the lessons in the situation. Then you may be freed from the same repeating patterns that have challenged you in the past and you will be ready to face new, evolutionary challenges appropriate for your current stage in life.

Obesity in Children on the rise

You might have seen Dr. Oz on Oprah talking about childhood and teen obesity — that’s just one indication of how serious the issue is becoming. Research indicates that more Canadian children are overweight and obese than in the past. In 1978/79, 12% of 2- to 17-year-olds were overweight, and 3% were obese—a combined overweight/obesity rate of 15%. By 2004, the overweight rate for this age group was 18% and 8% were obese—a combined rate of 26%.
Here are some tips from a good friend and nutritionist, Cheryl Millett:
Obesity in Children
Obesity means having too much body fat. It is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much. Both terms mean that a person’s weight is greater than what is considered healthy for his or her height. Children grow at different rates, so it isn’t always easy to know when a child is obese or overweight. Ask your doctor to measure your child’s height and weight to determine if he or she is in a healthy range.
If a weight-loss program is necessary, involve the whole family in healthy habits so your child doesn’t feel singled out. You can encourage healthy eating by serving more fruits and vegetables and buying fewer sodas and high-calorie, high-fat snack foods. Physical activity can also help your child overcome obesity or being overweight. Kids need about 60 minutes each day. from National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases

Real Life Radio with Jenna Howe discussing The Bowen Technique for concussions

A graduate of George Brown College Fitness and Lifestyle Management, Jenna Howe´s emphasis is whole body regeneration. Jenna´s health and fitness services, Body Design, was founded in 1996 and recently renamed Rejeneration to encapsulate her vision of whole body wellness and rejuvenation.
In 2002, Jenna was introduced to The Bowen Technique through a good friend and massage therapist. From that moment onward she knew that Bowen Therapy would be an integral part of her business. Through the years Jenna has worked on numerous physical issues and illness, children, elderly and athletes (both for chronic and acute injuries).
Jenna has been collaborating with a colleague in California in bringing The Bowen Technique to the forefront of addressing Post Concussion Syndrome. This innovative discovery has lead Jenna down an exciting path that now includes continuing her studies at York University in psychology with a special interest in neuroscience. Jenna is interested in working with all levels of athletes from children to adults, recreational to professional. Ultimately, the goal is for athletes of all ages and abilities to feel confident that there is a safe, effective treatment for concussions that will prolong their sporting career. Currently (in North America), the most known treatment is a ‘wait and see’ approach which can potentially put many athletes at risk for long term symptoms, becoming re-concussed, and increases the likelihood of not reporting even minor symptoms (to parents, coaches, trainers).
Jenna’s’ interest in Exercise and Cancer Recovery began in 2003 and led her to Colorado in 2005 to become a Cancer Exercise Specialist through the Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute located at The University of Northern Colorado. The role of exercise in cancer recovery is not to increase fitness level, but quality of life and after many years of research there is still some misconceptions of the role exercise can play in the recovery process. Jenna can help navigate your way through these misconceptions and provide you with the knowledge and expertise to safely exercise during cancer treatments and for post cancer rehabilitation.
Although Jenna has been focused on primarily rehabilitation in various forms over the years, she has still never forgotten her love of dance. Dance can be therapeutic on many levels and while attending a conference in 2007 Jenna found Zumba. A Latin inspired dance fitness class that is guaranteed to inspire you to move!
Committed to educating and providing health and wellness services to the Kawartha Lakes region as well as the Greater Toronto Area, Jenna conducts workshops, consultations, lectures and Zumba classes at your preferred venue: residence, office or clinic.
Trust in yourself and the universe

“Though I didn’t know where to begin, I felt this constant, insistent inner knowing that somehow I would be guided. So, all I could do was TRUST.”
— Brandon Bays, The Journey
How much do you trust yourself, trust your instincts? Maybe when things are going well, it’s a little easier to feel like you know what you are doing and you feel in control. But when things go wrong, what then? Do you question your thoughts, your decisions?
My advice — let go. Let go of trying to control the situation and figuring out the exact direction you need to be taking. Often you will have a flood of emotions taking over your senses during stressful or trying times that don’t allow you to “think” it through. So the best course of action is to let it come to you.
Trust that the right answers will come your way. Trust that the answers that your head thinks are not right, might be right. Sometimes your life path might not be what you chiseled out in stone long ago or promised yourself when you were a little child. You just don’t know it yet, but you will be guided to the right path for you at the right time for you if you just let go.
Self-centered intentions are the way to go…

I read this great blog entry by Andrea Hess about setting our intentions around other people… I hadn’t thought about my good wishes (or intentions) around others in quite this way before. Let me know what you think. Personally, it has given me a whole new way of looking at my intentions:
Intentions must be self-centered. That does not make them selfish. In fact, by centering our intentions on what we want for ourselves, we create space and room for everyone in our lives to step into that same level of authentic self-expression. We stop imposing our intentions on the people we love. Just imagine if every choice any of us ever made were met with unconditional approval! After all, who are we to say that our husband must be successful, our son must be responsible, and our children must be happy and healthy? What if they choose failure, irresponsibility and misery? Well, they are being the Divine Creators of their own experience, and we cannot judge their choices. We can only decide what we want for ourselves, and get on with creating our lives accordingly.
Making our intentions about others is a sure-fire way to take us outside of the realm of conscious creation. It takes us out of power and responsibility … and as an added bonus, we can feel good about ourselves at the same time! We can pat ourselves on the back for doing so much for everyone else! By focusing on what we want for others, we can safely avoid taking responsibility for creating our own experience.
In order to step into our Divinity, our intentions must be centered on what we want for ourselves, supported by choices that are ours to make. We are limitless, powerful Divine Creators of only one experience, and that is our own.
Blessings,
Andrea Hess

Detach yourself from the outcome

“The greater the emphasis upon perfection, the further it recedes.”
—Haridas Chaudhur
Do you find yourself wishing for a certain outcome to a problem or challenge that you are facing? Are you focusing with all your intent on that one and only result? Sometimes you might find that the more you put your thoughts and energies into a single pre-determined outcome, the more it seems to escape you.
Instead, open yourself up to all the possibilities the universe may send your way. There is nothing wrong with putting your energy into achieving the best outcome for you, but you might not know what is best for you yet.
Understand your challenge, put it out to the universe for answers, have faith that the best answers will come your way (if you are open to receiving them), and then get out of your own way! You will be surprised at how wonderfully creative the universe can be when it comes to solving our problems.
