How much does money cost?

“Sometimes money costs a lot.” — Chinese fortune cookie

This one threw me for a loop the other day. I didn’t get it at first. I mean money is money which means a dollar is a dollar, right? Well, yes. If you are dealing with cash.

But what about if you are dealing with credit? With interest rates predicted to start climbing again and people re-mortgaging their homes based on the “market value”, we are slowly (or maybe it’s actually quickly) becoming a very indebted society.

Credit cards and bank loans have made our lives easier in one sense, but I also feel they have made our living invisibly more expensive. If you are diligent and pay off the balance every month, money does not cost much. But if you let it pile up on you because you have the “room” on the card, your money might be costing you a lot more than it is worth.

Take the test and change your mindset

“When we feel great about who we are, we radiate an undeniable magnetic energy that attracts to us all the things we desire.”
—Debbie Ford, The Best Year of Your Life

Are you a financial worrier? Do you wonder every month where the money is going to come from to pay the bills, rent, groceries? Even when things are going relatively well, do you then focus on your loans and mortgages, letting the weight of the debt sit on your shoulders? Maybe you start to imagine all the terrible things that might happen if for some reason you didn’t come up with the money you need.

Need more money? Take action and bring more in through other means. And the best action to take is to change your mindset.

Keeping your mindset positive

“The thing to do is keep your mind when the world around you is losing theirs.”
— Warren Buffet

If you’re prepared and have the right tools, your mind can be at ease about your financial future. You can create your own micro-economy, and a thriving economy.

History has shown it is possible not only to survive but to prosper in these times.

During the great depression, huge fortunes were made by many. The Kennedy, Rothschild and Rockefeller families all dramatically increased their fortunes throughout the depression. But it wasn’t just the rich who got richer - many ordinary citizens found a way to not only survive but thrive during a poor economy.

What was their secret?

It’s not skills, education or luck that sees the rich getting richer and leaves you in the same situation year after year. It’s mindset.

In T. Harv Eker’s N.Y. Times #1 Bestseller Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, he examines the hardwired programming around money that everyone has, and unconsciously determines your financial success. He calls this your Money Blueprint.

Your Money Blueprint is the level of success you’ve subconsciously set for yourself. And unless you change it there’s a good chance you won’t get the financial results you hope for – when economic times are not easy and the good economic times too.

Redefining your life

With all the news these days about our “cautious economy”, “financially challenging” times, etc. I have been giving some thought to how to make it through the days and weeks without letting the negativity take over my focus.

So I was wanting to put it out there to you as well. What can we do to redefine our life right now and stay positive?

Here’s my first tip:

My definition of being weathly is having enough money to meet my family’s basic needs, having extra money for a few of our “wants”, and still be able to give some away to others.

What’s your tip? Share it with us here…

Living worry-free in a time of challenge

“When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened”
— Winston Churchill

I dug up this old quote because I keep hearing so much about fears these days. A lot of people are in the middle of a worry-fest and really need to release their fears around the situation. Why?

First because we don’t even know what we are dealing with yet, and therefore worrying is expending a lot of energy on something that we can’t even put a real name to, let alone do anything about right now. Secondly, it is a complete waste of her time to focus any of our thoughts into such an unknown territory. As this anonymous quote points out well, “Worry is like a rocking chair—it gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.” And we all have plenty of better things to do and bigger places to go. Remember, “energy flows where your attention goes”. If you focus on negative outcomes (worry) you will attract negative outcomes. If you focus on solutions, you will attract solutions.

So my advice for those who fall into the common habit of worry; keep living and solve the issues when they come up, because if they aren’t real enough to fix right now, they may not exist at all.

I just got access to this amazing online interview about the current economy and what to do to ensure your financial situation isn’t devastated by what’s happening in this market. The interview is with T. Harv Eker – I’ve mentioned his work to you before and he is in my recommended products list on this site. This interview deals specifically with how to create opportunities during this economic crisis and how to set yourself up to keep your abundance flowing because of the choices you make today.

Just click on www.millionairemind.com – you’ll see a button for a Report; click that and put in your email address and both a text and audio file of the interview will be emailed to you directly.

I’ve already listened to the report myself, and it really got me thinking positively about what I can do right now to make sure I’m successful – in any market. I’m sure you’ll get as much out of it as I did.

Enjoy!

Staying in the game

“You’re not obligated to win. You’re obligated to keep trying to do the best you can every day.”
— Marian Wright Edelman

When I attended a seminar a couple of years ago (Millionaire Mind Intensive), I learned a very valuable lesson that I didn’t even realize I needed to learn. It was about staying in the game. Not taking myself out before I even gave something a go (thanks to that little voice in my head coming up with all the reasons I shouldn’t do something). Before that moment, I didn’t know that I did this. I had to admit though, once the concept was presented to me, that I did indeed, at times, take myself out of the game before I even started playing.

For example, have you ever really wanted to do something you had never tried before, but chickened out even before giving it a real effort? Perhaps a dream job that you don’t apply for because “they wouldn’t hire you anyway” (your ego calling out to keep you safe). Or that solo in the church choir they are auditioning for — “they always use the same person for the solos so why bother”. Perhaps they always use the same person because no one else bothers to even show up to audition?!

Stay in the game. Maybe you won’t win all the time. But that’s OK. Just don’t take yourself out before “the tribe has spoken” (for all you Survivor fans). As the cliché goes, “You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.”

Take action and begin to CREATE money

“Life experiences are the continuum in this seamless matrix of nothingness, in this continuum of both body and environment. They are our experiences of joy and sorrow, of success and failure, of wealth and poverty. All these events seemingly happen to us, but at very primordial levels we are making them happen.”
— Deepak Chopra, Creating Affluence, The A-to-Z Steps to a Richer Life

The problem with worrying about money is that it never pays a bill. And what is worse, worrying about money actually pushes prosperity away instead of attracting it — which just makes our situation all the more difficult to bear. Sarah Ban Breathnach reminds us in Simple Abundance, that when your subconscious mind continually receives a message, positive or negative, it will eventually manifest that message.

Thankfully, every thought one has does not instantly materialize. The results of our thoughts can take weeks, months, or even years to come about. But negative thoughts about money on a constant basis signals fear, lack, and deprivation — which will lead to fear, lack, and deprivation.

A more practical approach to dealing with money issues, according to Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer in Creating Money: Keys to Abundance, is to consider what actions you could take to CREATE money. There is a big difference in the energy behind CREATING compared to NEEDING.

Remember to keep your life simple in terms of money. Worry only blocks your creativity and thinking in order to keep creating an abundant flow of money.
